In Fredrikstad, young people created and led LYD, a cultural and democracy festival designed for their own generation. Hosted at the local library, the event transformed the space into a vibrant meeting place where young people could take the lead, express themselves, and connect with others. The festival brought together elements of a cultural event, activity day, and conference, creating an inclusive arena for participation, dialogue, and creative engagement.

The programme featured a diverse mix of live performances, music, workshops, panel discussions, and interactive activities. A defining feature of LYD was the strong involvement of young people at every stage—from planning to implementation—giving them real ownership of both the content and the atmosphere of the event.

As part of the programme, a fix, repair, and redesign workshop was organised to highlight the importance of reuse, extending product lifespans, and circular economy practices. Participants engaged in hands-on activities where they could repair or redesign items they already owned, making sustainability tangible and accessible. The workshop demonstrated that repair can be a practical and creative alternative to discarding products, while encouraging more thoughtful consumption habits. This activity was supported by the TREASoURcE project.

Overall, LYD provided a platform where culture, civic engagement, and sustainability intersected. By combining creative expression with meaningful participation and practical learning, the festival strengthened youth engagement and raised awareness of circular economy principles in an inspiring and accessible way.
