Mid-June, the TREASoURcE consortium partners gathered in the city of Fredrikstad for the third consortium meeting. Following the kick-off organised in Finland in August 2022, this was the second time the consortium met face-to-face.
The project partners were warmly welcomed by Atle Ottesen, Deputy Mayor of Fredrikstad municipality. In his speech, he highlighted the municipality’s progress and future plans in terms of advancing circular economy locally. Except for being a consortium partner, Fredrikstad is also one of the pilot areas in TREASoURcE. For instance, municipal plastic waste from Fredrikstad is analysed as part of the Circular Plastics Key Value Chain demonstration.
During the three meeting days, each work package presented their progress, preliminary findings as well as upcoming activities. These status updates were coupled with an interactive activity or workshop session to gain input from all partners and strengthen collaboration beyond the usual WP teams. It was a great opportunity to carry out intensified work for instance on the stakeholder mapping and the upcoming TREASoURcE Replication Handbook.
We had the chance to gain first-hand insight into the local circular economy models in place in Fredrikstad during an industry visit to Øra industrial area. Visiting different companies working with battery recycling, plastics recycling and biobased side streams, we saw great examples of how companies can work together to utilise and circulate each other’s side streams efficiently through local industrial symbiosis model.
The meeting was closed by the Project coordinator Anna Tenhunen-Lunkka (VTT), who congratulated all partners for the great work and active collaboration during the first year of the project. The work continues full speed after the summer, as TREASoURcE approaches the 18-month mark and the end of its first reporting period.
The next consortium meeting will be held online in November.
