Inspiring speeches and expert insights
The event featured expert speeches that complemented each other. Jyrki Alkio from the Ministry of Employment and the Economy discussed the current state and future of the battery industry, Visa Simola from Fingrid opened up the possibilities of small and medium-sized energy systems in the regulation market, and Jani Tuominen from Finnvera presented investment subsidies. Toni Laakso from Lempäälän Lämpö introduced the local energy system, and Jari Saukko from Ekokumppanit talked about the TREASoURcE project’s battery pilot.
Networking and lively discussions
The event was designed not only for information sharing but also for networking and discussion. Lively discussions were enabled by keeping the expert speeches concise and leaving plenty of time for questions. Ample time was also allocated for informal discussions. During the breaks, business cards were exchanged, and participants found the event very successful.
Feedback and future plans
At the end of the event, a workshop session was held to collect feedback and identify information and support needs. Participants found the event timely and important, indicating a demand for similar events in the future. Participants especially hoped for a follow-up event focusing more broadly on the second life use of batteries.
Lempäälä House battery system
Electric vehicle batteries are no longer suitable for traffic use when their charging capacity is about 80% of the original. At this stage, however, the battery can still be used for other purposes, provided it undergoes condition testing and reprogramming. Interested parties were able to familiarise themselves with the Lempäälä House battery system, which is located in a separate, fire-segmented space. The battery system owner, Norwegian ECO STOR, manages the batteries and collects data via telecommunications connections. Although there have been challenges with telecommunications connections, the battery system itself operates excellently. In the TREASoURcE project, a similar battery system has been installed in two other locations in addition to Lempäälä House: Rudskogen Motor Sports Center and Trosvik School, both located in Norway.
Thank you to all participants!
The event brought together many experts and individuals interested in the theme, and we are excited about future opportunities. Let’s continue the discussion and cooperation on energy storage solutions!
