TREASoURcE at the Agricultural Machinery Fair: Showcasing innovations in primary production – 17.12.2024

Fixing workshop
The TREASoURcE project participated in the Innovation market at the Agricultural Machinery Fair in Helsinki, alongside over twenty other organizations, to showcase pioneering solutions for primary production.

The KiertoaSuomesta.fi digital marketplace, which facilitates the exchange of biobased side streams, garnered a lot of interest. Visitors were also drawn to the display items, including samples of manure, grass, and feed – tangible examples of the materials that can be traded on the platform.

The KiertoaSuomesta.fi platform sparked particular interest for its role in advancing the circulation and productive use of agricultural side streams. Visitors were especially interested in the following topics:

  • Opportunities for manure trading: Attendees showed a strong interest in options for selling excess manure, particularly valuable for farms where more manure is generated than can be applied to their own fields. This redistribution capability was seen as a way to improve resource efficiency within the agricultural community.
  • Pricing side streams for easier trade: The platform was also seen as a helpful tool for setting fair prices for side streams like straw, making it easier to sell these resources to neighbouring farms. The development of a side stream marketplace was viewed as a significant step in supporting the circular economy for agriculture.
  • Visibility of nearby resources: The marketplace also provides an overview of available side streams nearby, allowing farms to see which resources might be accessible close to home. This feature was valued for its potential to save time and support local resource-sharing within the farming community.
  • Supporting biogas potential in agriculture: The platform could also play a role in advancing biogas production from agricultural side streams, which has enormous untapped potential. Despite this, only a small fraction of side streams is currently utilized for biogas. KiertoaSuomesta.fi was seen as a promising initiative to connect farms with this opportunity.

The atmosphere at the fair was vibrant, with nearly 20,000 visitors over the three days! The Innovation Hub was bustling with activity, providing opportunities to connect with numerous other interesting organizations. Engaging discussions were sparked, and the team is looking forward to continuing collaboration with several of these partners in the future.
