Digital marketplace enables additional income from agricultural and forestry side streams – 8.12.2022

As part of the TREASoURcE project, The Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK) will launch a pilot for digital circular economy marketplace in spring 2023. MTK has already implemented a digital marketplace in previous years, but with TREASoURcE, the development of the platform continues. The objectives of the project include creating a platform that can also be replicated in other countries.

The marketplace is intended for use when a farm produces raw materials that cannot be exploited by the farm itself. It can be manure, straw or any other bio-based material that can be utilized, for example, as a feedstock for biogas.

The main goal of the marketplace is to connect sellers and buyers and help to keep transport distances geographically moderate. The digital marketplace pilot will first be held mainly in Pirkanmaa, Finland. During the project various events, workshops and interviews will be implemented to achieve a diverse user experience. The marketplace will be developed further based on the feedback collected from a varied group of users.

For the success of the site, it is important that users feel a sense of ownership of the marketplace and that they have a feeling of getting additional opportunities for cooperation and business.
