Throughout the day, visitors explored the principles of the circular and sharing economy, joined various workshops, and enjoyed a lively community swap market where forgotten items—from plants to toys—were given a new life.
Local initiatives showcased practical ways to use resources more wisely in everyday life. Representatives from Foodsharing Tartu introduced the concept of food-sharing cabinets and distributed rescued food, emphasizing that food sharing is for everyone. Anyone can both give and take.
Creative workshops for all
The Sharing Day workshops offered hands-on activities for all ages. One activity transformed old plastic into unique bookmarks. Another encouraged participants to take things apart and reassemble them to learn principles of repair and reuse. Under the guidance of a local environmental education centre, attendees also created reusable food wraps coated with beeswax.
The Nature House organized a workshop that taught how to sew fruit and vegetable bags from old curtains. For many children, it was their first time using a sewing machine, an experience that brought plenty of excitement. In addition, two popular guided tours of the Nature House were held, highlighting the building’s environmentally friendly features.
The day was a great success, proving that sharing and sustainability can bring communities together.
The event was organized by the Association of Municipalities of Tartu County and the City of Tartu, in collaboration with the DD Foundation, Tartu Nature House and TREASoURcE.
